介绍
CET-4: Registration Requirements and Passing Standards
I. Registration Requirements
Who Can Register (Eligibility)
Full-time college students: Currently enrolled undergraduate (and some junior college / vocational) students at accredited universities and colleges in China.
In-school requirement: CET-4 is generally open to students who are still enrolled at their institution. Graduates who have already left school usually cannot register through the regular channel.
New enrollment: Most universities require first-year students to complete a placement test or meet a certain score before being allowed to sit for CET-4; some restrict first-semester freshmen from registering immediately.
Registration Process
Registration is conducted through your university, not individually.
The university submits student information and photos to the National College English Testing Committee (全国大学英语四六级考试委员会).
Registration windows typically open in March (for the June exam) and September (for the December exam). Deadlines are set by each institution.
You register using your student ID, pay the registration fee, and receive your admission ticket from your school.
Documentation
A valid student ID and government-issued ID card are required at the exam venue.
Your admission ticket (准考证) must be presented along with your ID.
Restrictions
You can only register for CET-4 if you have not yet passed it (i.e., scored 425 or above). Once you pass, you generally cannot re-register for CET-4.
In many universities, you must pass CET-4 before you are allowed to register for CET-6 (六级).
II. Passing Standards
Scoring System
The CET-4 total score is 710 points.
The test has four sections:
Listening Comprehension (听力) – 35% of the total
Reading Comprehension (阅读) – 35%
Writing (写作) – 15%
Translation (翻译) – 15%
The Passing Threshold
The passing score is 425 points out of 710.
A score of 425 or above is officially considered "passing" and qualifies you for a score report showing your results.
Scores below 425 are reported as well, but they are considered "not passed."
Score Report
Your score report (成绩单) is issued by the examination committee.
Passing status is reflected on the report, which shows your total score and sub-scores for each section.
The certificate/report is widely accepted as evidence of English proficiency for graduation requirements, job applications, and further studies in China.
Note on "Certificate"
Since 2005, CET-4 no longer issues a "pass/fail certificate" but rather a score report. However, the 425-point threshold is still the universally recognized benchmark for "passing."
